Program Notes

Weight of the Earth is a piece about the emotional journey surrounding failure. It's first movement is about the attempt, one tackled with great energy and spirit. The second movement is about the period of uncertainty that comes with the wait for the results of one's efforts. Lastly, the third movement is about the pain of failure, what to me can often feel like the weight of the earth pressing down onto me. As someone with ADHD, and with it Rejective Sensitive Dysphoria, failure strikes me with an amplified sense of shame and dread. The fear of failure as a primary motivator is an unhealthy quality, but it is one I find myself stuck with. Weight of the Earth is an introspection for me to try to find peace within failure.
