About

Bruno Robles-Rendón (b. 2004) is a first generation Mexican-American composer, performer, music producer, and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He has written music for various ensembles including Mantra Percussion, JACK Quartet, the Bergamot String Quartet, MACE, ASTRA, and the Mannes Orchestra. He is currently serving as the founder and artistic director of the concert series Notes After which features the voices of many young emerging composers.

Bruno’s music is largely inspired by themes of childhood, memory, neurodivergence, nature, and anti-fascism. His artistry originates from the space of "contemporary-classical music" but his concert music often extends beyond it through the exploration of electronics and even reaches to the realms of song and sound art. Bruno views the process of musical creation as more than just an avenue of creative expression. For him, it is also a means of learning about people, the world, and himself.

Bruno is currently a 4th year student at the Mannes School of Music in a 5 year program containing both a BM in composition and an MA in Arts Management and Entrepreneurship. Following 2 years of study with David T. Little and Christopher Cerrone, he now studies composition with Mary Kouyoumdjian

Bruno is currently working on a large scale work called "Thawing Ice" centered around the persecution of immigrants in the US that already has been warned to be at an early stage of a genocide by Genocide Watch and the Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention. This piece is written to be a solo piece performed by him featuring cello, heavy electronics, and his original poetry.

As an activist, Bruno strives for the dismantling of oppressive systems while also working to re-imagine his own music scene as one accessible and open to all. In 2023, he joined Jazz Against Genocide as a composer and performer, an organization that has him merge his artistic practice with boots on the ground activism.
