About

Bruno Robles-Rendón (b. 2004) is a first generation Mexican-American composer, cellist, educator, organizer, and producer raised in Brooklyn, New York. He has written music for various ensembles including
Mantra Percussion, JACK Quartet, the Bergamot String Quartet, MACE, ASTRA, and the Mannes Orchestra. He was the founder and director of the concert series "Notes After," a concert series dedicated to programming the music of gen-Z composers featuring 5-9 composers per concert. Bruno's music is largely inspired by themes of childhood, memory snapshots, neurodivergence, nature, and anti-fascism. Rooted in contemporary classical music, his diverse musical style stretches to the far corners of this musical sphere and beyond including music for concert, film, and mixed-media ranging from intimate songs to abstract microtonal works.  electronics, song, and sound art. Bruno views musical creation as more than creative expression. For him it’s also a means of learning about people, the world, and himself.

Bruno recently graduated with a BM in Composition at the Mannes School of Music under the mentorship Of Mary Kouyoumdjian, Christopher Cerrone, and David T. Little. He is is now pursuing his 2nd year of his MA in Arts Management of Entrepreneurship at The New School.

Bruno recently premiered a large-scale work called
Thawing Ice, a piece themed around the persecution of immigrants in
the US which has been raising alarm bells as the beginning of a new American Genocide. This is a solo work performed by Bruno himself for electric cello, acoustic cello, heavy electronics, sampling, and spoken voice featuring his original poetry.

As an activist, Bruno strives for the dismantling of oppressive systems while working to reimagine his own music scene as one accessible and open to all. In 2023, he joined Jazz Against Genocide, an organization that merges his artistic practice with boots on the ground activism, as a composer and performer.

As an educator, Bruno believes that access to musical education should be accessible to everyone. He is the solo designer and developer of the ear training app called Trichord Trainer using SM-2 spaced repetition techniques to make aural skill development more effective, easy, and engaging for learners at all levels. He is also the developer of the open source Harmonic Glyphs font, a useful resource for digital chord symbols and harmonic analysis. Bruno has larger plans for a widespread network of online resources he wishes to provide for musicians and these projects are its first few steps.
